Phase V Part of a Strategic Plan
In 2005, Riley Hospital for Children announced a $500 million, 10-year strategic plan for Indiana's children and families. A critical step in that plan is to build Phase V, an inpatient facility at Riley Hospital. The 10-story $235 million patient tower will be the first step to allow Riley to meet its goal to be one of the largest and best children's hospitals in the nation.
There Is an Urgent Need for the Phase V Expansion
- Last partial inpatient expansion was completed 20 years ago in 1986.
- Current facility needs to be updated.
- Most days, Riley operates at capacity.
- Frequently, children are treated in Riley's Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units and/or Riley Recovery Room because Medical-Surgical beds are full.
Demolition of Phase 1 Completed
To pave the way for the new building, Riley’s Phase 1 building was torn down. Brandenburg Industrial Service Company performed demolition.
- 80% of all materials removed were recycled.
- Remaining 20% - wood, insulation and garbage — were sent to a landfill.
When Completed, Phase V Will Offer:
- 10 stories
- 675,000 square feet
- Capacity in Phase V: 288 beds
- Medical/Surgical beds (144)
- Critical Care Beds (48)
- Neonatal ICU beds (60)
- Perinatal beds (36)
- Operating Rooms (18)
- Expanded Emergency Department
- Radiology Suite
Private Rooms
- Will incorporate Family-Centered Care principles and family amenities.
- Reduce nosocomial infections.
- Permit better bed utilization (bed not closed due to patient mixing problems).
- Enhance patient privacy and satisfaction.
- Increase flow and efficiency.
