General Nutrition for Adolescent

The teen years are a time of growth. You need extra nutrients to support the
adolescent growth spurt.

This growth spurt puts great nutritional demands on your body. During this growth spurt,
lean body mass (muscle) doubles in boys and their body fat decreases.

Girls also gain in lean body mass, but they gain more body fat than boys, and this is normal.

This intensive growth period affects every organ, including the brain.

Foods with iron are important with the onset of menstruation in girls and the
increase in lean body mass in boys.

Foods with calcium are important to help build strong bones and help you grow taller.
