However, when sinuses cause pain that is either disabling or chronic, the expertise of an Otolaryngologist can determine the cause and nature of the problem. Most patients respond to drug therapies. New advances in antihistamines and decongestants offer patients relief without drowsiness.

For patients who do not respond to drugs, surgery can correct blockages and other abnormalitites that cause pain. Follow up care includes medication for pain and infection prevention.

Otolaryngologists use a special piece of optical equipment called an endoscope to view the nasal and sinus region. This procedure is performed in the office and requires no recovery time.

Your doctor may refer you to a radiologist for a CAT scan to determine if your sinuses are clear.
