A major part of the care of the child with diabetes is healthy nutrition. Our team of Registered Dietitians specialize in diabetes education and are up-to-date on the latest dietary research and guidelines. You will get acquainted with our Dietitians:
When your child is first diagnosed, one of our dietitians will sit down with you and discuss your child's eating patterns, likes and dislikes, and you two will come up with guidelines for their meal plan. This will include teaching you how to adjust diabetes management to your child's individual food and activity schedule. The care of the child with diabetes has changed drastically and you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that your child can continue to make food choices the same as any other child, including eating birthday cake and other sweets you may have assumed were no longer allowed. We use a "Carbohydrate Counting" system which is easy to learn, and our Dietitians will be glad to help you with:
Our Dietitians are available to answer questions related to your child's meal plan from Monday though Friday 8am - 5pm. Call your Dietitian's office and leave your question and they will return your call as soon as they can. Riley Hospital Registered Dietitians:
