General & Community Pediatrics

Indiana University Medical Center's Division of General and Community Pediatrics provides comprehensive health care services to children from infancy to eighteen years of age. Preventive services, well care and treatment of ill children are offered without regard to race or economic background. Non-medical support from social services and assistance with finances and transportation are also available on the basis of need.

Our Primary Focus: Prevention and Well Care

General and community pediatric services are provided at Regenstrief Health Center and Riley Hospital for Children, both at IU Medical Center, and also at IU Health Care locations and other community-based clinics located throughout Indianapolis. The services at each clinic vary but our primary focus is on health maintenance, such as well-baby visits and checkups. These services are available to families regardless of their ability to pay. However, in order to qualify for care on the basis of need, the child must reside in Marion County.

Evaluation and Referral for Children with Health Problems

Indiana University Medical Center offers several special community clinics for children. Most of our patients are referred to these programs by social services professionals and organizations. Following evaluation, our pediatricians will refer the child to the appropriate resources for treatment and follow-up care.

The Sexual Abuse Clinic offers evaluation of children throughout Indiana in cases of suspected sexual abuse.

The Child Maltreatment Clinic provides evaluation of children who may have been abused or maltreated, and have no primary care physician.

The Urgent Care Clinic is for our patients with common childhood illnesses who need care in the evening or on weekends. The clinic, located in the Regenstrief Health Center, provides treatment during "non-office" hours so that parents will not have to take young children to the emergency room.

Case Management of High-Risk Children

Our pediatricians work closely with other pediatric specialists at Riley Hospital to care for children with potentially serious, complex or multiple health problems. Our specialty clinics and programs include lead testing, adolescent medicine, dermatology, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, sickle cell anemia, and growth and development.
