Surgery session

Riley Hospital has a total of 224 beds, with 32 Intensive Care Unit beds and 48 Newborn Intensive Care Unit beds.

Riley Hospital Operating Rooms have two dedicated, "state of the art" Cardiovascular Surgery suites which are capable of multiple cases per day. The Riley Newborn Intensive Care Unit is fully equipped to handle newborn infant cardiac surgical patients.

In addition, patients are managed by the specially trained extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) team, in conjunction with the Newborn Staff and Cardiothoracic Staff.

Their special expertise is appreciated with their advanced use of the ECMO support unit, under direction of the Cardiothoracic Staff as deemed necessary in certain life threatening situations.

The Cardiothoracic Surgery team work very closely with the pediatric Anesthesia, ICU and Cardiology Staff on the daily postoperative surgical management of our patients. Many new modalities of care including Nitric Oxide administration for pulmonary hypertension have been added in recent years.
